Combatting the Growing Impact of Climate Change with Sustainability Initiatives at Festivals in Australia

This article explores the environmental impact of Australia’s festival industry and argues for a shift from optional sustainability measures to compulsory, regenerative practices. Drawing on my work within the events and environmental sectors, it examines how festivals can reduce waste, influence patron behaviour, and become powerful sites for cultural change.
